“To write is human, to edit is divine.”
Stephen King, On Writing

I know what it feels like to hold a finished manuscript in your hands and wonder what on earth to do next. I’ve been there myself — and that’s exactly why I do what I do.

My editorial and self-publishing skills have been built through lived experience, professional training, and the guidance of a rather brilliant publishing mentor who calls me his Padawan.

I've helped a number of authors bring their books into the world — properly, professionally, and entirely on their own terms.

Proofreading or copy editing — what’s the difference?

People ask me this all the time, so here’s the simple version:

A proofreader corrects. A copy editor corrects, revises, and improves.

As a proofreader, I only change what needs changing — and I always check against your style guide, your intentions, and reliable sources before I touch a word. Your voice stays yours.

Copy editing goes deeper. It looks at structure, flow, consistency of voice, overused words, and the overall reader experience. It’s more involved, more detailed, and usually includes more than one pass through
your manuscript.

What’s included

Proofreading covers spelling, grammar, punctuation, consistency, house style, factual accuracy, captions, page numbers, fonts and formatting — and you’ll receive a marked-up proof with a list of queries.

Copy editing includes everything above, plus sentence restructuring, suggestions for rewrites where needed, identifying overused words, consistency of voice and chronology, and a detailed report.

Typesetting and self-publishing

Once your manuscript is edited and proofread, you have a choice. You can approach traditional publishers and hope for the best — usually handing over the rights to your hard-written words in the process.

Or you can self-publish, keep your rights, and get your book into the hands of readers worldwide.

I can help you with typesetting, cover design, and full self-publishing support through to global distribution. I’ve done it with my own books, and I’ve helped other authors do it too.
