IV - My Journey, by HC Parker
Drum roll, please. Let me proudly introduce a newly published author, HC Parker.
Last October, I received an email from Helen asking if I would be interested in helping her self-publish her new book. That’s like asking me if I want to taste some Cadbury’s Dairy Milk!
We had our first meeting at Caulder’s Coffee Shop in Cumbernauld, and we chatted as I munched on a humongous scone and sipped my lovely latte. Helen resisted the cakes but had a scrummy-looking hot chocolate. You get the idea of how our first meeting developed.
In early November, Helen completed her manuscript and bravely handed it over for me to edit. I remember that feeling of sharing your words with an editor. Will they like it? Is it good enough? Have I written a load of rubbish? Will they laugh at my attempt at becoming an author?
Over the next five months, we had more meetings and hundreds, possibly thousands, of emails. Helen’s book topic was unfamiliar to me because I was fortunate to have no difficulty getting pregnant when I wanted to have children. But it’s not so easy for others. Pregnancy just doesn’t come naturally to everyone.
Reading the manuscript, I felt Helen was sharing her most intimate and private thoughts and experiences, ultimately allowing me to re-trace her steps along her IVF journey. Between wiping my tears, holding my breath and feeling Helen’s frustrations, I edited, proofread, typeset, and published her book on IngramSpark in paperback and ebook formats.
IVF, My Journey, by HC Parker,
will now be available worldwide from the publication date, 26th March 2025.
Congratulations Helen.
As an author, seeing your words turned into a book is a fantastic feeling, but I can tell you it’s equally amazing to be involved as the editor/typesetter. It is an honour and a privilege for a writer to trust me with their treasured story and help them become a published author.
Writing is easy, but getting your book into people’s hands is difficult. Why not make a new author jump for joy and drop Helen a message to pre-order her book, IVF, My Journey?

From the back of IVF - My Journey:
How many calamities does it take to make a baby?
The journey to having a child should be simple, shouldn’t it?
A man meets a woman, or a woman meets a man. They date, get married, have a child, and live happily ever after.
But what if that’s not the case? What happens when a woman meets a woman or a man meets a man?
In reality, IVF can be a long journey of weight loss, IVF cycles, hurdles, periods, devastation, polycystic ovary syndrome and endometriosis, nutrition, hope, IVF complications, fitness, understanding, and miracles, all on the quest to become a mother.
In this book, the author takes you through her full journey, as though you were friends sharing a coffee, telling you how it all happened.
She doesn’t hold back and is as truthful as she can be, with a lightheartedness and a bit of laughter thrown in for good measure.
This story will make you smile, gasp, shout, and cry.
It might be just what you need to read if you are considering starting your own IVF journey.

DO YOU DREAM OF BECOMING A PUBLISHED AUTHOR?
A few years ago, a friend told me I didn’t need a tearoom to help people. I didn’t believe her then, but seeing people publishing books I have helped produce proves my friend was right.
